FULL-TIME   (hours per week: 40)  WORK SCHEDULE:  Monday-Friday, 7:00AM-3:30 PM  (With Occasional Saturdays)

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma.  Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety, or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience as a safety officer/manager or related position.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations.
  • Familiar with EPA and RCRA regulations.
  • Certified as a safety professional or specialist.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be authorized for coverage under agency insurance if operating an agency vehicle, have a good driving record, a valid driver’s license in the state/territory of contract operation, and/or the required level of personal auto insurance.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check, per company requirements.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adequate ability in communicating in spoken conversation – adequate volume of speech.
  • Adequate ability in writing/reading/mathematics.
  • Ability to effectively build and maintain positive working relationships with management and peers.
  • Strong organizational, project planning, and management experience with proven analytical and multi-tasking skills.
  • Superior listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in general reporting and basic case file management.
  • Must be able to operate a computer.
  • Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES SUMMARY:
Responsible for the oversight of the successful safety program of the ground maintenance contract.  Must conduct safety meetings regularly, safety inspections in the field, investigate all safety incidents, complete all necessary safety reports, and inform project management of any safety violations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Hold regular safety meetings/training sessions to promote workplace safety education.
  • Ensure all employees receive proper safety training, from initial safety training as a new hire to training on any equipment to be operated.
  • Enforcement of all safety policies.
  • See that accident reports and all associated documentation are completed as needed in a timely basis, and files are maintained.
  • File workers' compensation claims and follow up as needed with the insurance company.
  • See that proper treatment is provided for any injuries, e.g., first aid, OH clinic, 911/medical professionals.
  • Maintain Haz-Mat inventory and SDS book.
  • Provide required reports to Garrison Environmental, such as BMP (Best Management Practices) and AST (Above-ground Storage Tanks).
  • Maintain open lines of communication with Garrison safety and environmental personnel.
  • Purchase safety equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain records for OSHA 300 and 300A.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THIS POSITION MAY INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
  • Implement, promote, and enforce the policies of the Safety Program for the Grounds Maintenance Operations on the Redstone Arsenal to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees and to eliminate workplace accidents.
  • Maintain all records and documentation for Phoenix, OSHA, Workers Comp, Redstone Garrison, etc.
  • Administration of the safety plan in such a way that a safe workplace is maintained for all employees.
  • Complete and accurate safety-related documentation and record keeping.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The majority of work (approx. 70%) will be performed outdoors in all seasons. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather. Employees should be able to drive a truck for intermittent periods during the day on paved and off-road surfaces. Employees should be able to move about on outdoor unfinished grounds, lawns, paved/finished surfaces, and inclines up to 45 degrees. Some moderate lifting (up to 50 pounds) may be required. A company vehicle is provided for transportation on the worksite.
  • Office space is provided for required administrative work, i.e., records, paperwork, and counseling.
  • Adequate ability for conversation, telephone use, and emergency information systems.
  • Ability to be independently mobile on all surfaces and in all situations.
  • Ability to move safely about the work area.
  • Ability to retrieve items from high and low areas.
  • Ability to perceive size, discrimination, temperature, shapes, and/or textures.
  • Physical stamina to work at least 8 hours per day.
